आइए पहले जान लेते हैं कि यह कपाल क्रिया होती क्या है, और इसे कब किया जाता है. मृत व्यक्ति के शरीर को जलाते समय, मृतक के सिर पर तीन बार डंडा मारकर इसे फोड़ा जाता है, इसी को कपाल क्रिया कहते हैं.
ये अंतिम संस्कार का महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा है, इसके बाद ही शव, पंचतत्व में विलीन हो जाता है. हिन्दू धर्म में, अंतिम संस्कार में इस क्रिया को करना अनिवार्य होता है.
यदि इस क्रिया को सही से संपन्न नहीं किया गया, तो मरने वाले व्यक्ति की आत्मा को शांति नहीं मिलती, और कभीकभी तांत्रिक आत्मा को अपना दास बनाकर बहुत कष्ट देते हैं.
